Toyota failed the exhaust pipe (by not painting it). Couldn't stand looking at that unfinished 3" exhaust pipe, so I reached for a can of heat resistant flat black... Much better.

Painted with what? just flat black Krylon? or hight temp something?
Guess when it starts looking like crap, it can easily be stripped & start over...
I saw that on the rough country taco that was posted in another thread.
Turn down in front of the rear diff will solve that issue, but I just dont feel right hacking-up our $40-$50k+ trucks....

Most auto manufacturers route the tail pipes away from the driver for health reasons (out the back or on the passenger side). I don't know why Toyota opted to do it this way.

Tell me about it. I have ranted about it: Particulate Filters Coming. Get Ready

My suspicious mind thinks there will be a mid-cycle refresh, where magically a larger gas tank appears by moving exhaust and gas tanks around. And suckers like me will willingly trade in.

I still say that’s ridiculous, factory Toyota trail hunter option maybe $75, I could be wrong but they lost their mind at that pricing. There will be more & way cheaper options in time.....
Muffler shop can easily get a flange and make one in no time, not charge 250…
Won’t be as pretty and stainless, but who’s gonna see it…

Replying to Snickers, there isnt much knowledge & skill there in that piece to justify that cost...

Its one of several questionable design decisions (see 18 gal tank; increased turning radius; rear bumper inserted under the bedside panel (why?); unnecessary body lines, etc).

It hangs quite low, I’ll give it that.

Why is Dodge the only company to ever release a pickup with a proper factory exhaust? People debate what motor is a truck motor and what is a minivan motor, and if this truck or that truck can be called a rig, while Dodge left all the pretenders in the dust long ago. And let’s face it, the 4G might be a great truck otherwise, but the 4G Tacoma exhaust is ridiculous and will be either torn off or bent to shit on anything approximating “off road” driving.

I do wonder why the fuel and exhaust are where they are. The exhaust manifold is on the passenger side of the engine. The fuel cap is on the driver. Why the dual switcheroo?

Good old high heat bbq paint (it's flat)... There are other's in the market you can you. I used the same paint on the bbq pig pit I fabricated, years ago, and never had any issues with it. Just remember to clean the metal before spraying.

Looks like Toyota ran out of room for a proper exhaust, so the attempted coverups & tips look like lipstick on a pig.

Just cut ‘em, and throw the ends in the same pile with the front air dams…all at a tidy zero cost.

I thought about doing the same but I plan to go with the Toyota dump pipe (same part that comes stock on Trailhunter). The accessories catalog says it will be available for $90 as I recall. Hope it comes soon, the titanium NYTOP dump pipe is beautiful but it’s too much money for something hidden under the truck.
