    Hey all,

I've been hypermiling my Taco and wanted to compare results with others. I figured it best to start with mods...

    2019 OffRoad Access Cab v6
    Tuned
    Lifted
    285s
    TrdPRO exhaust
    Steel front bumper/sliders
    Winch
    Mudflaps
Well-fed passenger princess with 3 Stanley water bottles

Starting with that, I'll post my baselines.
Average trips have netted me roughly 16-19mpg on the highway. I keep it around 65mph and I try to use shell premium as I'm tuned.

I also wanted to work on Aerodynamics, so installed a softopper.

    PXL_20240425_232128873.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL~2.jpg

No change in MPG... I noticed the trans seemed a bit rough with these third gens, so the best fix was to have the dealer flush new fluid in. I didn't want to pay 22$ per quart so I brought my own in from Amazon and had it flushed for 100$. Not bad! Taco (legitimately) shifts way better now.

Additionally I felt it would be best to work on Aerodynamics. Utilizing the shape of a Prius, i figured my modded Tacoma's issue was the lack of airflow through the bed. I swapped the softopper to bikini mode, and decided to check mpgs again. Also I try to stay around 62mph.

Viola, with that I'm now pushing 30-40MPG with all these mods. On my last 1.5 hour drive I was able REALLY push the limits of the third gen - 40+ mpg.

On shorter commutes I'm pushing 28-32 mpg.

I think I'm going to make some better Aerodynamics out of cardboard and duck tape it on to see if I can push 50mpg.

Trips to Starbucks are so much cheaper that the coffee is basically free!

    More info....

I found my MPG was the worst with ECT enabled. The sound of the exhaust and extra pep is fun tho!

    Easily 15-17 MPG with ECT.

I just use 91 octane and a splash of vanilla Dr.pepper in the tank at every fill up. No cardboard needed!
Female name I picked for my truck loves it but I bet I could get even better economy if I used Jolt cola

Hah, nice play with the Brenizer Method for your “model” (it fooled at least one of us ).

I only got this mpg while hypermiling with similar mods…IMG_2213.jpg:pout:

Gotta see your cardboard plans!

I went up to Robinsons Flat Saturday for some astrophotography and ended up cruising back quite late. Decided to see how far I could really baby the truck and was able to push the MPG to 40+. Thought it would make for a good Friday thread :D

I’m assuming it was using the Brenizer Method cause you got some really nice bokeh in that photo of your truck - what did you use? Also like the star field image- what was the cloudy look in the middle from? Just haze or further out?

Possibly some light pollution or light reflecting off water in the air.

Normally I'd get a pic of the Milky Way but I was aiming for some Auroras.

I added the center console divider, but I'm lucky if I get 32 mpg. So jealous!

Stock with a camper shell for now.
How in the world did you get your mpg up to that.

Heavily modded Tacoma, proper fuel, right MPH, and a proper passenger princess.

I'm so confused here -- is this a trolling post? What have you done to hit those mpgs?

Simple really, I detailed everything out. This should be easily replicated by every forum member here.

Heck, one person already posted 45MPH!

    I'm obviously doing it wrong

    Happy Friday
