Im so torn about the space behind the seat inregards to a sub perspective, sucks...
As we discussed via pm, seems like every shop I visit at this point, they all have different ideas...
Putting 2 8's in the tub under the seat, etc...
Looking at your pics, looks like we have some serious room if we leave the tub out....
Do you know what the module is on the passenger side?

The JL box CS110LG-TW3 21 x 14 x 4 7/8th is getting delivered today, I am hoping to make it fit, with a little modification if needed to the truck.
I will take detailed pictures with the measurements of the rear as well to share with the group.

Bob, your plan is to leave the rear plastics out correct?
Would imagine you will have to.....

No joy, not even close. The sub may end up under the seat. 20240425_121358.jpg

The front doors were easy to disassemble; once I figured it out. . The final screw was accessed by sliding TRD cover forward, (easy once you know) along with removing the screws from under the door handle and popping out the window control. The matting was easy to install with plenty of room to work with. I received my 6x9 Infinity Kappas and plan to install them this afternoon. Still battling the sub. I’m surprised they’re truly have 6x9’s in the front doors, but not like I’ve done any systems lately, just seems odd to me

interesting.... a sliding panel to get to a screw seems excessive. did they hire a dodge engineer for that one?

the plastic panel on the inside of the door is interesting. i assume it is removable with a little twist of the nobs. did they put any sound deadening on the inner door? either way... that has to be better...

There was no sounding in any of the doors, I am in the process of matting all four doors, and installing speakers.

Any chance during your digging around you find any info about the camera systems and the head unit?

I found another roadblock, I cannot run speaker wire from/through the front doors to the mids or tweeters in the dash. I am looking for the source input, to put the crossovers near the source and run wires to the mids and tweeters. Any recommendations on where to locate Toyota wiring diagrams?

I have not looked into the Toyota camera system; I intend to add an aftermarket dash cam.

Youre the man Bob, look at you going to town on this thing....
Did the grills over the dash speakers come off easily by just popping the with a prying device?
Obviously you have the pillar plastics off, but dues that grill also easily pops out?

Thanks for post! Very interested in seeing what becomes available in the near future. That sub looks pathetic.

Serious question here really, not at all hating or being critical (I drive a 2009 TRD Sport and did NOT get any audio upgrade package or special seats or whatever the package was back at that time, drove a couple years with stock/base audio before having Car Toys install pretty freakin awesome Polk/Alpine/Focal speaker/sub/amps to stock system to stay stealth and have mostly loved it. Cost like $1,200) but why did you get the JBL system Sport Upgrade package and then gut it when it is a minimum $4300 upgrade and then spend another couple thousand replacing it? I am shopping for a 2WD 24 TRD Sport w JBL and power seats but STILL trying to find it on lot in Underground/Bronze while there are plenty of them around WITHOUT the JBL, but still 2WD and color etc I want. NOW I’m deliberating just pulling out speakers and amps of current setup to re use in a 24 WITHOUT HJBL and upgrade package, save $4300 on new truck and reinstall old speakers etc in my current Tacoma to trade/sell BUT it looks like the sub box won’t fit behind rear seat of 24 like it easily does in my 09.
SO my most important question was if JBL is crap, then what besides power seats (which I mean I’d LIKE but for the most part, seats are set and forget and render power seat function pointless since I’ll use it like once in a blue moon) is the attractiveness of the sport upgrade package? I’m in DFW so I do NOT need heated seats, but would of course love AC in seat vents. What else am I missing in Sport Upgrade? Were y’all just stuck with the JBL and didn’t want it but wanted everything else?
Thanks in advance for explaining, commenting, flaming me, whatever lol. Any input is appreciated

Lion gaffer, I would also be interested in hearing Bobs take on your question.
For me, I was originally going down the same path as you as I did not want or need heated seats, heated steering wheel, rear, power, sliding window, etc. the truck I reserved was quite a ways out. Dealer called me up and offered me this white one SR5, as it was on the lot. I decided to take it. The JBL door speakers aren’t bad as they sound decent. The sub is where it’s totally lacking. If you’re somebody who has never had an actual high-end system, it would be fine. I went in thinking oh it’s a JBL. It’s gotta be great. Was not the case. I suggest if your patient just grabbing one without the JBL system and upgrade yourself go to your dealer and I’m sure they will allow you to jump in a truck and listen to a JBL system in a Tacoma….. beat sonic makes a $300 plug and play inline amp that’s supposed to be a large improvement to the stock JBL system. I’m supposed to hook up with a gal locally who has one in her truck, but it just hasn’t happened yet after seeing what Bob ripped out of his truck, I don’t think I want to put $300 towards the JBL

Ah yes ok thanks much for confirming my thoughts and yes would love to read an answer from Bob. Yes I took a test drive in a 4WD Trd sport just to feel the drivetrain and steering and suspension and hear the JBL. Wasn’t a long test drive and don’t want 4WD at all but I liked what I felt and heard, just don’t know if it would justify an extra almost $5k in package upgrades.

You can get a phenomenal system installed for $3k that will blow the doors off the jbl, but not everybody’s about that, I am sure there’s a lot of folks that think the JBL is great…

Yeah I mean really any aftermarket system will blow doors off “premium” factory audio system upgrade packages. I’m all about aftermarket especially if it saves me some money. Cuz then I can justify wheel/tire upgrade lol.
