Yes. Your initial impression of it will probably depend on what MTs you've driven before. If you're coming from short throw sporty sticks you may feel like you're driving a hopped up state fair tractor for awhile. Give it some time. Once I got used to the gearing and clutch engagement point I love it. But every vehicle I've ever owned was a 4 banger stick.

One thing that surprised me the most is that the turbo doesn't really kick in much. Probably because I drive like an old man and live in the Midwest.

Just test drove a manual today. LOVED it. Had a 3rd gen manual...this one seems to be a lot smoother. Wonder if that accumulator is gone?

Accumulator is gone. Gearing is a bit different, wider gear spread on the transmission. I really need to go drive one.

I liked it so much, I'm in the market for a Tundra as I'll be towing a 4000lb boat/trailer, but I'm just tempted to say screw it, the Tacoma will work (I know technically 4000lbs is well within towing limits for the Tacoma). Just pull it up the ramp in 4LO, right? And I hope that engine is solid...does it share enough in common with the other T24A-FTS engines like in the Highlander and Lexus to be considered good to go even though it's first year for Tacoma?

I felt like it accelerated effortlessly, but while I don't drive slow, I don't drive fast, either, and my expectations aren't super high. I thought 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears were great (no highway on my drive so I didn't get into 5th or 6th) and very responsive. Windows were down a little and caught the whine of the turbo on more than a couple occasions which was cool to me.

I have an order in for the transmission part number because I want to install one in my 3rd gen. I called the dealer for an update and there are 15 orders for that backordered part number. My guess is the other 14 beside myself are the ones needing to be fixed.

Meh. I’m seeing more and more of them pop up on the forum with no issue shifting. I wouldn’t be too concerned. Worst case, warranty and loaner.

warranty under 3 years and 60KM sure but seems like a safety issue if gears are going out suddenly.

So I just picked up my manual on Saturday. I will say that it is very smoothe. I drove it about 400km home from the dealer. Once in a while you do get the blow off sound. I have never had a manual truck before just cars and my new kei truck but it doesn't count. I find on down shifts that I can feel like metal on metal or grinding but no noise of a grind. It mostly seem it happen down shifting to second the clutch is in just down shifted to second and I can feel it for a split second in the pedal just before I'm about to release the clutch. There were lots of posts of the 3rd gen doing similar things and everyone said it was normal. I think I am paranoid after reading about the one that went out early. I want to enjoy the truck but I think I need to know if this is normal.
