So, it turned out to be more damage than I expected. The entire bumper assembly needs to be replaced. It's at the body shop now and they expect the parts to be delivered tomorrow. If the parts show up early enough in the day, I might get it back tomorrow.

Still waiting for Flo to fess up that it's her insureds fault, but my adjuster assures me that will happen.

The appraiser wrote for a bit more than $1,700.00 including parts and labor. No painting as my end caps are chrome. No frame damage, which is really good.

If entire bumper needs to be replaced, it's not minor accident. Tap your rear, hard.:D

I was very surprised that there was that much damage, but both the appraiser and body shop guy said there was. All I felt was a small jolt when the car hit my truck.

Yeah, looking at those pics, $2k easy, they may send an amendment estimate after teardown, bumper & brackets, tail-lights?
    progressive is the worst....
You may need to pay youre deductible & then badger progressive claims adjuster almost a year later to get re-imbursed....
Had to do this on my moms behalf....

The tan Tacoma is another posters. Mine is a Cement 2019 SR5. I'll have to see if I still have the pictures I took on my phone. The adjuster from my insurance company said that it's hit or miss with Progressive. Sometimes they'll admit liability right away, sometimes they stall.

Since I was stopped and the other driver admitted that his foot slipped off the gas pedal, it seem pretty clear cut.

I replaced my bumper with aftermarket, and I can say that there's not a lot to the stock bumper. It wouldn't take much to require a complete replacement. The metal underneath is super thin. It's designed to crumple.

And I also have gone through my own insurance company on my last 2 claims even though we were not at fault. I had to pay the deductible, but it was refunded when they settled, and my rates did not change -- because I wasn't at fault. The second one was an uninsured motorist -- once they determine that they were truly uninsured, it doesn't go against you and you get your deductible back. It's not the claim that makes your insurance go up, it's fault.

My insurance wants my business and doesn't argue -- the other party's insurance cares about paying the least amount possible.

Yes, Texas requires that I pay the deductible and then once the insurance companies argue it out, I'll get it back. Different than in our old state, but then again it's our old state. I always go through my insurance company and let them argue it out with the other guy's company.

The appraiser, who is an independent so works with a lot of companies said that Progressive will try to insist on aftermarket parts even if the vehicle is near new.

Pretty sure it was Progressive that I tried to deal with on my 2004. I was rear-ended pretty badly, although not as badly as the guy behind me that the drunk lady hit first. Luckily nobody died and I had no frame damage. Their initial estimate was ~$3K and included a lot of used parts. My truck was less than a year old at the time, so I said nope. They came back with ~$6K but still wanted to cut the bed apart and replace the bottom and right side. Nope, I used to do paint and body work and you can't do that properly and get it square without a proper jig. I gave up at that point and went through my insurance and a good body shop (Berli's in Austin, at the time they did all the Lexus and BMW dealer work). Final bill was ~$13.5K, but it was done properly.

Much easier to just let them argue it out.

How do you know you were at fault in an accident in the past?

So I got the truck back from the body shop today. They replaced every bit of the rear bumper and apparently that included the trailer hitch. I guess the trailer hitch is built in as part of the bumper. Total cost was over $3,000.

    All OEM parts nothing aftermarket.

    Took a picture this morning.
