There's a Jeep on the next street over that has a bunch on the dash. One of the ducks looks to be about 5x bigger than the rest.

Little while ago I started getting clunks and moans from the front shocks, difficult to reproduce and not consistent. 99% sure the front driver spring perch glue came loose and ate up the top hat, and passenger lower shock eye bushing is on the way out. Got way more life out of these 5100s than I expected, almost 3 years of not exactly highway use.

Decided to just go ahead and do them when I do the rest of the frame here shortly. 6112s and 5160s, and since I'm gonna be fucking with the rear frame section anyway, archive hangers and shackles while I'm at it. I'll probably go ahead and wheel/etch/POR-15 the fabbed LCAs while I've got the wheel wells wide open, too, because I can probably get another year or two before it's a real concern, why not stack the labor when I can?

Then I can start tearing apart the bed shell, and use it as a test run for Durabak. If it turns out even halfway decent I'll do the rest of the truck by Fall. Other than potentially some other minor picking and poking, that's the size of the money hole for this year.

Edit: lmao. Helping the GF house hunt, basically to catch stuff that would be a showstopper or major expense if she waited for the inspector to catch it.

    20240420_121005.jpg 20240420_121013.jpg 20240420_121021.jpg 20240420_121829.jpg

Real nice house, 60s built, extremely high quality construction and a little dated but exceptionally maintained. All the physical plant stuff was high quality, professionally installed.

The fusebox wouldn't have been a showstopper necessarily... except it's 10 inches from the fuel bunker, meaning it isn't just a panel replacement, it's now a panel relocation as well, and still ends up with either a whole house rewire (especially given the way the outbuildings are fed and the multiple suicide cord generator hookups), or else a wall full of Jboxes leading to the new panel down the wall.

200A upgrade to feed a shop would have also meant upgrading the can outside, out of pocket.

That, plus it's built right on a busy local north-south.

Anyway, thought the little time capsule was interesting enough to share, so rare to see these in the wild.

Is that an old Federal Pacific panel on the right too? The house my sister bought had one and she made the previous owners replace it as a condition of the sale - they're bad news.

These came in handy in one of the apartments I was in. Most of the house was wired to one fuse.

That's pretty much what I dealt with moving into this place. 80amp service, few fuses, blah blah.
Now running 200a service, with a 48slot main, and a 100sub up in the top floor, for the second, and 3rd.
2 hydro-air units now, new boiler, and stainless indirect water heater. I will eventually finish pipng the second oil tank. Lots done. Lots more to go.
And I'll never do it again....

Good news and bad news today. I finished my replacement shed build - mostly touch-up paint and caulking over exposed screws today. It's just a little 4x8 lean-to that I put behind the garage for garden tools, push mower, weedwacker, etc. It's a kit from Lowes, but I made some modifications like 12" on center floor, roof, and main wall instead of 24". Added a padlock hasp and keyed a padlock to the house key instead of using the provided keys. Added a Harbor Freight solar light, too. I also used a lot of 3" Simpson Strong Tie framing screws instead of nails for speed. I'm probably four days into this at this point, but it's finally done.

    upload_2024-4-23_18-45-10.png

...and then I got my tractor stuck for the first time - in a somewhat precarious spot. A friend's going to bail me out with his side-by-side and winch. I got a little too bold working on soft ground on a slope and got into a situation where I don't have enough traction to climb back up the hill and backing up would be risky. The voice in my head said multiple times "quit while you're ahead and wait for the ground to firm up and for grass to grow before doing any more of this". Too bad I didn't listen.
