Funny, I have heard of overheating issues on 4th gens running larger tires. I'm sure aftermarket turbo/intercooler upgrades will be available at some point. I'm curious to know what the HP/TQ limits will be on these factory engines.

I don’t get it, I appreciated not having an exhaust tip that just gets covers in mud and dirt and never looks the same anyway o_O

Once we make-up our minds that we want that mod, muffler shop can cut the pipe off the existing flange that youre going to "remove" & weld & mandrel bend exhaust pipe to it & throw an exhaust hanger on it, $75 & done....
I believe theres all sorts of premade mandrel bent pipes.
This mod isnt to gain any real performance, its just to ditch the pipe out the back....
If we gain .5 hp by doing so, ooougggghhhhh booooyyyyy!
wont be as pretty but soooooo what....
Im not saying this pipe as I havent measured but, something similar, just pointing out the $250, theyre on crack.....
& you are too if youre think you have to have that NYTOP pipe!
Legit custom fab muffler / exhaust shops probably already have something on the shelf...
Been working on exhaust & engines for 35 years...
    75 degrees down pipe $29:

furthermore flanges are also readily available $10:

I fella owned one down the street from me when I was a young kid. I was always excited to see him start it up on a cold morning with the clouds of condensation coming out the stacks. Undoubtably the coolest pickup truck ever to roll outta the factory in its day. I don’t really know how Chrysler got away with it then, or if they could even market something like this now.

Co worker bought one a year or so ago, he ground off the decals on the doors.........................

Paint is faded but the body is actually in pretty decent shape other then that.

FWIW, Dodge did it because emission controls were quite a bit looser on trucks then cars and they wanted a little ''muscle'' in their lineup. It was reasonably fast/quick for the time and they could make emission standards easily. 225 hp and 340 torques was nothing to sneeze at during that time frame and up from 160 hp. [65 more horses was to die for then]

My guess is that they moved the gas tank to balance the weight better, then had to route the exhaust to the driver's side for heat reasons. But they wanted to keep the gas cap on the same side, so put a long filler pipe in.

Just measured the tip on my SR5 because its really ugly and it's 3 3/4" for 4" in and none of the aftermarket tips are that big... aaargh! Toyota wants $112. for the black chrome tip, which is on B/O of course. I guess everything we want is going to be stupid expensive until the aftermarket people get producing for us. I may paint it like Tacowrench did. Its better than seeing that naked pipe.

Look around on Jegs website. Even a local exhaust shop could source something.

Thanks for the idea. High temp paint is the only mod available for the gen 4.

Those that want to do this mod which I’ll probably do mine tomorrow. Look at your pipe, where it curves upward over the rear diff, all we have to do is cut the pipe and flip the pipe over by unbolting at the flange so it’s pointing down. Have the exhaust hanger re-welded on the top. Done…IMG_3700.jpg

This is my understanding. Someone posted a diagram somewhere, but I can't find it. The gas cap is still on the driver's side and the filler tube crosses all the way over. Could have something to do with weight distribution, or possibly the new rear suspension design, both, or neither.
