I came out to get in my truck today and noticed a loose cable hanging down just behind the driver side rear wheel well. It's looks like it should probably be connected to something in the rear bumper. Anyone know what it goes to?

EDIT: Mystery solved. super_white called it... it was a sloppy aftermarket hitch install compliments of U-Haul. Thanks everyone!

Also, I got the piranha off Amazon and clipped the zips.

It looks like someone tapped a wire somewhere, maybe for a bed topper or those goober LED lights under the tailgate that fail within a year.

That wire goes to wherever the :jpow: who hung it on with tie wraps tapped it into, probably as others said to supply bed power or to their goober lights underneath the truck.

Aftermarket garbage. Never trust a man that doesn't trim his zip ties.

Your best bet would be to follow it to the front, find that connection. Probably get rid of it/use it to pull another wire. Looks like a fairly dismal attempt at whatever it was judging by slack and no trim zip ties.

Looks like a loose thread on a sweater. Pull it and your truck unravels.

Seriously, trace and eliminate before it bites you in the butt later.

It probably goes to the battery post. Somebody ran power back there for a canopy light or something. Just clip it off

that's a horrible thing to put in your pocket!

there's no safety catch to keep the business end closed while it's in the pocket!
