It is bad for the fuel pump to run the tank that low...so just fill up before that light comes on and it'll never matter.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
There is 4 gallons left in the tank when it comes on. So whatever your maximum gas mileage is multiplied by 4.

I think I read once that you have 4 gallons left when the light comes on. BUT... I used to be in the bad habit of filling up when the light turned on. That all changed when one time I ran out of gas well before that light ever came on, probably a little under a quarter tank. GF was not too happy about that. Now I never let it drop below the half tank mark, its my new empty mark.

I reset the odo as soon as the light comes on, just to give me a idea of how many miles I've gone since. Fourty miles after is no problem in my truck. Some claim it's bad for the fuel pump cause the fuel is used to help cool the pump down, and I'm sure it does. But don't the fuel pump cycle on and off?

20L are left in the tank when the light comes on. There is too many variables to give you an exact mileage.

I thought it was 2 gallons left when the light came on. I go for 30 miles then fill up once the light is on

Well when my e light usually comes on it takes about 17 gallons to fill. Supposedly a 21 gallon tank so roughly 4 gallons. I'd probably only count on 3 though.

When the light came on I reset my od

    Drove 8km

    Filled up 71.5L

So if it's really a 80L tank there should have been 8.5L left

Doesn't mean u could actually use all the 8.5L though

    Same here.

I've gone as far as 50 miles after the light came on, though.

What I notice is that you have just under a 1/3 of your fuel left in the tank. On my 2nd Gen Tacoma it's a 21.1 gallon tank, it took 15 1/2 gallons to fill it up, but on my 1st Gen Tacoma it's an 18 gallon tank and it took 13 1/2 gallons to fill it up right when the light comes on.

I made it 50 miles after the light and then ran completely out/dry/dead. That was with a bit of a headwind and a small empty trailer as well, so I use that as my safety margin.

It's not bad until you let the pump run after you ran out of gas. It isn't the gas around the pump that keeps it cool, it is the gas that runs through it that keeps it cool and lubricated.

Your fuel pump runs all the time while the key is in the ON position.

Great question, when running that low you need to start factoring in other variables. Are you towing anything, what is your tire size, are you on freeway or ? Etc. not enough info, and everyone’s probably going to have different answers depending on their setup.

    Just a small tidbit.

It doesn't cost more to drive with the tank full than it does to drive with it near empty.
