I’m also on skinny 33s with 2” lift, sliders, front bumper/winch and for about 4 months out of year run bed rack and RTT.

Truck has lots of power. 90% of the time my tach stays below 3k. Running premium SFOB tune on 94E0 chevron.

I would also love a second transfer case for that super slow crawl speed but that ain’t gonna happen.:)

I've read a few times that 5.29 AT is the same as 4.31 MT and honestly it's not bad but, if I paid a ton of money for new gears and thats how it drove with an AT I wouldn't feel that the ROI was there.

    finally got the 5.29's!!

i had EGCG send me regeared front & rear diffs & the front diff they installed the clamshell bushing for me.
it elimanted the freeway vibrations i was getting!
me and my buddy got it done a couple weeks ago.

i used to get 220-228 miles on a full tank..
    now?
i get about 272-281 miles a tank with my speedometer calibrator and cold air intake i got off RC
i also only run premium fuel.
    the shifting is smoother too.
it does shift much less on the freeway.

    happy camper over here!

    Awesome, glad to hear.

Regearing is my next, and probably final "big" upgrade.

Tacoma has the power. It doesn’t have the gearing for the double overdrive.

    A regear is a must for 35’s

As someone with heavy 33s, I would like to regear.

I’m not super heavy running 33’s pizza cutters with 4.88’s and a tune runs great no complaints

Narrow tends to be heavy load
Probably cheaper to switch to wider if it’s lighter. Lower load rating

I'm running 5.29's with 285/70/17 Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks... The gearing is great.

One could argue it's slightly overheated, but marginally, if at all.

Regardless, if starting over, I'd still go 5.29's.

IMO Call the pros if you want to be sure about what gears you need for your rig.

depends on variety of factors including what trans you have.

Probably not. One pro shop told me do 4.56. Another told me do 4.88. Another said do 5.29 because that’s what they do on 16-23 automatics and somehow applies to my manual 2nd gen with short trans.

my top speed would be 40 if I put 5.29 and I’d be the one left with that problem with them left with a bag of money.

ask a CA shop for CA things to find out it doesn’t work in CO at altitude there’s that as well. Who woulda thought theres 49 other states.

That was supposed to say "overgeared"... auto incorrect.

mine feels a bit overgeared on 4.88 too
But I think it’ll shine once:
    -crawl off road
    -add weight
    -altitude
    -tow
    etc

basically can’t speed on the highway
which isn’t a bad thing legally.

I see the Tesla speed past on their way to super important meeting behind 7-11
but somehow end up ahead of them at the red light without trying every time

I don’t regret regearing to 4.88s on 32.5’s (275/70/17) with steel bumpers and sliders.

only downside, other than cost, is my Toyota gears were silent and my Nitro gears whine on deceleration.

    Define "speeding"
    You can't hit 66mph?

What size tires do you have?

Lol for real man. I've got 5.29s and 33s, and I regularly see 85-90 when doing a long highway drive. MPG sucks, but the truck will move if you ask it to.

Call ECGS directly - that's what I did - I'm pretty sure they know what they are talking about. They asked me some pretty specific questions about my truck and how I planned to use it not just AT vs MT.
