Good to see you around man!

It sounds like you are in kind of the opposite situation as Shane, your employer apparently doesn't trust or value you. Something Eddie said a few pages back applies here: "You don’t owe anyone anything."

Can't help with the job search except with positive thoughts.

Well, that was an interesting overnight...

An old friend stopped at the garage yesterday and we sat gabbing so I didn't get home until almost 9, about 1/2 mile away Mrs Green calls me and says there is a dog on the porch - growling.

I get home and there is indeed a 2 year old 70 pound female pit bull on the porch - more making noise than really growling. It is saying "I want in!".

The tail started going a mile a minute when I put my hand out and the dog came right to me, after a good pet and scratch I opened the sliding door to the van and she jumped right in.

I wasn't even to the "main" dirt road (1/10 mile) before a big nose shoved my right elbow out of the way and suddenly there was a huge tongue on my ear. I told her to get on her own side and she climbed on the passenger seat, sat down and looked contentedly out the windshield like she belonged there.

Rural folks turn in early, one house had lights on, I told her to stay put and knocked on the door - it wasn't their dog. :(

Back in the van my new co-pilot was contentedly sitting in the passenger seat like she chipped in for gas...

    To be continued...

Lacking a better plan we went back home. Doggo jumped out and headed right for the porch.
Well - whatever, I'm not solving it tonight.

I was however looking forward to something to eat, a little TW time and a nap in the chair with my cat before bed - none of that happened either.

Doggo confidently trotted into the kitchen - 3 cats immediately vanished, 6 pound Daisy of course wasn't the least bit intimidated by a 70 pound pit bull and just studied her from a few feet away.

This kid was hungry and in addition to not having any dog food in the house for 15 years I was clean out of leftovers - originally, I was going to get home around 6 and make chicken parm but didn't because I was visiting. She ate some cat food, milk and cheese - not all together.

Mrs Green gets up about 4 am for work so she is already late for bed - our new dog friend jumps right in and thrashes around to get comfortable -- takes a bit of hospitality and runs with it I guess.
She does get right up when I tell her to (the dog, not Mrs Green ;) ) and we head for the living room.

I sit in the chair, doggo wants to sit in the chair - did I mention this is a 70 pound dog?
A happy, affectionate 70 pound dog - in my lap.

Eventually she settles into orbiting between me in the chair and going to the bedroom door (1 story house) to bark/moan/yip.

    But wait, there's more...

    Midnight, I'm tired - but I ain't sleepin'...

We have an out and then I optimistically think she will settle down on the bedroom floor.

    Yeah, right...

About 28 seconds after I'm in bed someone jumps up and stretches out between us - kind of taking her half out of the middle. After some cuddling and jostling around doggo settles down by our feet and we all get to sleep.

    3 AM

I'm rudely awakened by a big nose in my face, we have an out (good dog). Back to sleep-ish-kinda.
Mrs Green eventually gets up for work, we all get up - have another out, Mrs Green motors off - without much sleep. :pout:

Personally, I feel like I fell down a flight of stairs so I decide to try to Z a bit more.

With all this free bed real estate with Mrs Green out of the picture doggo decides to now take her half out of my quarter and promptly plunks down about half on top of me and is out like a light - that makes one of us. Did I mention this is a 70 pound dog?

Doggo snores away soundly - and farts... :(

Tune in again - Same Bat time, same Bat channel...

    Daylight.

One of us, having slept soundly, seems quite refreshed...

The other is partially incapacitated from having most of their left side used as a full body pillow for several hours - and hungry too, I never did eat last night.

Doggo seems quite intelligent, does her business outdoors, comes when I call her, isn't the least bit rough, genuinely loves being pet, cuddled & brushed - yeah, we were back in the chair - she settled right down for a Z on my lap again -- and more farting...

Wind aside, this is a really nice dog -- you can see where this is drifting...

    Cats:
    Quincy has become invisible.
Bonnie finally crept out from behind the TV and is growling.
Bizzy is maintaining distance - with giant black eyes and a tail 4X the size of normal.
Daisy is unconcerned but annoyed that she is missing out on her regularly scheduled attention.

I called my vet, they said if I bring the dog they can scan for a microchip.

I had an very old collar & leash, she sat still with tail thumping while I put them on and happily danced out to the van, she is good on the leash too, no pulling at all.
Loves riding, sits proud in the shotgun seat like the old van is an F-250.

I stopped at one neighbors house, he gets around so I hoped he would recognize the dog - no.
Drove around a bit hoping for a reaction, one place she seemed interested so I stopped.
Nice folks, told my story, lady had seen something on FB, made a call.

Doggo came from a farm about 4 road miles away, owner delighted to have her back, seemed like a good fellow - he got down and hugged the dog.
Said I would be a hero to his kids. :humble:

Muddy foot prints in the van and Lack-O-Sleep aside I really enjoyed borrowing the dog for a few hours - and also reinforced my decision that I don't want to be responsible for one again, the cats fit better in the chair. ;)

    Her name is Maya.

    Happy ending for all. :):):)

I'm glad I found the owner too, she really seemed like an excellent dog and I know I couldn't have taken her to a shelter. I really like dogs but the cats are a much better fit for where we are in life now.

The fellow seemed genuine, he said "if you ever need hay or get stuck in a ditch or something just come here, I've got you".

He said she did have a chip too.

Mine’s the best copilot I’ve ever had. Never tells me what to do or gives bad directions. Always been spot on deciding where to stop for food. Whenever I hear “we’re best friends”, can’t help but think of my dog. :)

Thanks! I actually have a 1 year non-compete. I currently am in supply chain and logistics, but I'm willing to do just about anything that pays what it needs to.
